At Ethos BJJ, our mission is simple: empower individuals through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. We help students build confidence, discipline, and respect, both on and off the mat. Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced competitor, our focus is on real skill development, consistent progress, and a supportive training environment.
Tyler began training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at age 15 in 2009. In 2019, he made the bold decision to move to Brazil to train at the source. Over four years (2019–2023), Tyler earned his brown belt, competed and won multiple brown belt championships, and was awarded his black belt in 2021 under Claudney Borracha and the Tozi brothers. He earned his 1st degree black belt in 2024 and continues to compete internationally, representing Tozi JJ.
Jiu-Jitsu is more than a collection of techniques. It is a system for solving problems under pressure.
At Ethos BJJ, we focus on understanding position, control, defense, movement, timing, and the connections between them. Rather than simply memorizing techniques, students learn the principles behind them and how to apply them when things don’t go according to plan.
Our goal is to develop students who can think for themselves on the mat. We want you to understand what you are doing, why it works, and how to adapt when your opponent resists.
Train hard. Think critically. Develop real Jiu-Jitsu.
TRAIN JIU-JITSU THAT IS ACTUALLY TESTED
Learn techniques and strategies that have been tested through years of live training and competition at the highest levels of Tyler’s experience.
LEARN A SYSTEM, NOT JUST A COLLECTION OF TECHNIQUES
Jiu-Jitsu is more than memorizing moves. At Ethos, students learn how positions connect, how to create advantages, how to defend themselves, and how to solve problems under pressure.
PERSONALIZED INSTRUCTION
Every student is different. Instruction is adapted to your experience, physical attributes, goals, and current level of development.
TRAIN WITH A BLACK BELT WHO STILL COMPETES
Tyler continues to train and compete, bringing the lessons of competition directly back to the academy.
A SERIOUS BUT WELCOMING ENVIRONMENT
You don’t need to be an athlete, a fighter, or already know anything about Jiu-Jitsu to start. You simply need to be willing to learn and put in the work.
At the same time, students who want to compete and push themselves have the opportunity to train seriously and develop their Jiu-Jitsu to a high level.
